On 6th April 2013, the Two Tunnels Greenway - a shared path incorporating more than a mile of former railway tunnel - opened in Bath, providing users with a gently-graded, traffic-free route into the city from the south. It was the culmination of a seven-year campaign which brought many challenges, but the benefits brought to the area are many and varied.
It is estimated that 265,000 trips are made over the route annually. People come to see it from across the country, boosting trade in local pubs and hotels; locals use it for leisure and commuting. Could the reopening of Queensbury Tunnel do the same for the communities around Halifax and Bradford?
